Malaysia To Entice 2.5 Million Accountants Worldwide

10th Sep 2008, Kuala Lumpur: The global marketing initiatives of the World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) 2010 will target more than 2.5 million accountants worldwide employed in public practice, industry and commerce, government and academe, professional from 157 members and associates of the International Federation of Accountants’ (IFAC) in about 123 countries.

The WCOA 2010 Organising Committee has embarked on a number of global strategic marketing and promotional initiatives involving international and regional professional bodies, Government ministries, and corporate firms to reach out to these accountants.

This comprehensive global marketing campaign will also involve promotional support and activities with the Tourism Ministry, MATRADE and Foreign Embassies in Malaysia. Simultaneously, MIA is also seeking promotional and marketing channel support from the various professional accountancy bodies.

From 8-11 November 2010, MIA will host the WCOA which is dubbed the Olympics of the accountancy profession. Held every four years once, it is highly respected and well-attended, to which MIA hopes to attract more than 6,000 delegates. MIA won the rights to host this global event, winning against aggressive competition from India, Mexico, Spain and Netherlands.

"Being chosen as the host country is a tremendous achievement and honour for the nation as well as the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), as it puts us in a unique position to work closely with all our stakeholders including the Government, regulatory agencies, business organisations and education establishments to raise the profile of the Malaysian accountancy profession," said MIA President, Nik Mohd Hasyudeen Yusoff.

Jointly organised by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and MIA, the theme for the Congress is "Accountants: Sustaining Value Creation."

WCOA aims to encourage the accountancy profession to exert its leadership in promoting adherence to high quality and consistent professional standards; encourage all those involved in financial reporting to act with integrity; assist countries in establishing transparent and accountable financial systems and to provide the necessary resources to create and sustain value creation.
