About MALAYSIA

Malaysia lies in the heart of Southeast Asia, one of the world's fastest growing economic regions. It is within easy reach of China and India, two of the world’s largest markets.

Politically stable and culturally diverse, Malaysia is a peaceful country with an exemplary track record in race relations. Different ethnic groups, each having its own distinctive religion and culture, live harmoniously side-by-side.

Malay is the national language but English is the most widely used language in commerce. Other complementary languages include Mandarin and numerous Chinese dialects as well as Tamil and other indigenous dialects.

This contrasting potpourri also shows up in the skyline and physical landscapes where Moorish architecture decorates the capital city here and there, just as many colonial buildings are unmistakably British-influenced. The Americans, Japanese and Koreans stamp their marks on the newer skyscrapers, including the world’s tallest twin towers.

Rich with natural resources, and blessed with successes in high-tech manufacturing, R&D and IT ventures, Malaysia has a solid base for foreign direct investment and business dealings. State-of-the-art, world-class facilities and infrastructure make Malaysia a premier meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) destination.

Malaysia is steadily gaining recognition as a popular tourist destination. A total of 1,819,689 tourists visited Malaysia in March 2008, according to statistics released by the Immigration Department of Malaysia. For more information visit Tourism Malaysia’s online Media Centre.
